About the Mural
A bright sun in the upper left corner with brilliant rays against a patchwork of blue sky. The phrase ‘Community Creating Future in the Hidden Place’ is written in the spiral of the sun representing the community’s influence on the future. A ripple of geometric shapes flows through the sky like the wind from one end to the other representing the elements of wind and rain that naturally shape the landscape, as well as the thoughts, intentions, and actions of the population that influence the development and livelihood of our community.
The community tree’s trunk and branches are composed of words that contribute to Escondido’s strength as a community. The branches extend into a silhouette canopy made up entirely of the handprints collected in collaboration with Esco Alley Art of the Escondido Art Association. These handprints symbolize a prosperous community fed by its values and history. Brightly colored handprints represent key community members to acknowledge their contribution to this, and other public art projects in Escondido. The colorful hills and rows of agriculture are visible along the background representing it’s significant contribution to the economy and history of Escondido. A child runs in silhouette along a hill in the foreground with their small dog representing the freedom, joy and pride that come with living in vibrant Escondido.
