The Escondido Community Foundation (ECF), a regional affiliate of San Diego Foundation, awarded $212,000 to seven local nonprofits at its Annual Grants Award Celebration Sept. 26 at the California Center for the Arts.

Escondido Community Child Development Center, Inc

Preschool Playground Upgrade
ECCDC Boyce Preschool Site is in the process of building a sensory playground. The revitalized area next to our playground will be a safe and enjoyable outdoor place for our young children, their families and staff as well as residents of the surrounding community. Yearly, approximately 500 children and adults will enjoy the upgraded outdoor environment next to the new playground.

Escondido Creek Conservancy

Mountain Meadow Preserve Outdoor Classroom and Event Space
The project involves transforming a section of Escondido Creek Conservancy's Mountain Meadow Preserve office area into a vibrant outdoor classroom and event space. Located within the preserve, the space will feature enhanced accessibility and create a comfortable outdoor setting with shade structures, misters, a water station, recycled eucalyptus benches, picnic tables, a dedicated teaching station, tracking station, a state-of-the-art kiosk, and strategic lighting will facilitate engaging educational activities and create a dynamic learning environment.

Water Wise Exhibit Project
The updated Water Wise Exhibit will offer an interactive and engaging gathering space where families and community members can gather around this water play area, fostering social interactions among children and adults alike. The hands-on nature of the exhibit encourages collaborative exploration, creating a shared experience for visitors. The project will attract over 100,000 annual visitors to the Water Wise Exhibit, providing a dynamic outdoor space for community members to gather, learn, and enjoy.

San Diego Mountain Biking Association

Daley Ranch Trail Restoration Project
In the face of dangerous trail conditions with negative environmental impacts due to erosion, trail tread failure, downstream sediment runoff and unintended trail widening, the Daley Ranch Trail Crew and long with SDMBA will execute a plan to revitalize the trails. This all-volunteer group of community members who love Daley Ranch and intend to improve it with stewardship, care and education.

Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead Pavilion
This project will seamlessly blend with historic surroundings while providing a modern and functional space for various activities. The pavilion aims to attract more visitors to the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead, leading to a significant increase in attendance at educational programs, community events, and recreational activities. It provides a space for community events such as festivals, farmers markets, and cultural celebrations which foster greater community engagement by providing a space for residents to gather, learn, and socialize.

San Pasqual High School

Shade Structures for Athletic Facilities
These structures will provide shade for people playing soccer, field hockey, football, girls flag football and running track in our stadium. We would also utilize the structures for shade at our tennis and outdoor basketball courts. During the normally brief, rainy season, the structures would double as rain and wind shelters for people participating in the same sports.

The Friends of Daley Ranch

Outdoor Learning and Recreation at Daley Ranch
This project includes picnic tables with attached benches, and the purchase of separate benches to encourage family picnics and also to be used for the 7th grade field trips; bi-lingual informational signs, focusing on the Ranch House, the historic barn and the four utility buildings just north of the Ranch House; Renovate the barn and utility buildings in order to preserve an important reminder of the original Daley ranching operation; Improve the Cougar Pass parking and trailhead area; repair the split rail fence in the parking area, purchase trash and recycling containers and purchase of new trail signs and posts. Lastly, a new kiosk which will aid visitors with useful information about the trails, pre-cautions, and rules.
