ECOLIFE Conservation

Environmental Education and Food System Awareness Through Classroom Aquaponics
This ongoing partnership between ECOLIFE Conservation and the Escondido Union School and High School Districts provides K-12 students with hands-on experiential STEM learning through aquaponics. With this funding from the Escondido Community Foundation, ECOLIFE Conservation will place 50 ECO-Cycle Aquaponics Kits with K-12 STEM curriculm and supplies in classrooms throughout Escondido.

Friends of Daley Ranch

Opening Young Eyes to Nature in Escondido
With this funding, Friends of Daley Ranch will host virtual field trips for EUSD seventh graders. These “visits” will be pre-taped videos on the Daley Ranch Preserve, native plants, animals and Native American culture. Additional activities will be available to students such as making molds to simulate animal prints, how to identify wildlife “scat,” nature passport “scavenger hunts,” and more.

San Pasqual Union School District

Interactive Science Garden
The WE CARE Garden project will enhance an existing school garden and develop an immersive nature garden experience. Through outdoor, interactive, hands-on science opportunities, this project is designed to promote responsible global citizenship so students are inspired to become environmental leaders of tomorrow. The WE CARE Garden will be designed to impact students from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th-grade.

Escondido Creek Conservancy

Habitats: A Program for All Escondido Union District 3rd Graders
This year, Escondido Creek Conservancy will be hosting virtual field trip experiences for approximately 1,800 3rd grade students in Escondido Unified School District. This funding will go towards producing a series of digital videos, including virtual reality experiences, for students. The videos will incorporate animals and allow students to get as close to the in-person field trip experience as possible.

San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum

Water and Environmental Education Workshops for Children in Escondido
San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum is partnering with Escondido Unified School District to provide hands-on water and environmental education workshops to all second-grade classes in Escondido Unified School District during the coming school year. Considering COVID-19, SDCDM has transformed their traditional field trips and mobile school programs into engaging virtual water and environmental education workshops. This funding will help expand the virtual water education program to all 17 EUSD elementary schools, serving approximately 1,600 students.

Coastal Roots Farm

Environmental STEM Education Program
This grant will help support Coastal Roots Farm, in collaboration with the Escondido Unified School District, to provide environmental STEM education through virtual farm visits. Through these virtual trips, students will develop an understanding of plant parts and their functions by being led through botanical drawings, recipes using different parts of a plant and inquiry-based exploration of plants.

I Love A Clean San Diego County, Inc.

Food for Thought
With this funding, I Love A Clean San Diego will bring virtual presentations to 4th grade students in Escondido. These interactive programs will target students and their parents alike, introducing concepts such as zero waste, waste reduction and sustainability. Each presentation includes a focus on food waste reduction and reduction practices that families can incorporate into their daily routines.

San Diego Zoo Global

Exploring Conservation Science for Escondido Union High School District Students
With this funding, San Diego Zoo Global is launching a five-part, virtual learning program on conservation science for 8th graders from Hidden Valley Middle, Del Dios Middle, and Mission Middle. This curriculum builds on a program these students attended as 6th graders and will help them develop an understanding of their local wildlife and become community-based environmental leaders.

Grants Celebration Program

Since 2007, more than $4 million has been granted to nonprofits serving Escondido, including contributions made to After-the-Fire Fund. ECF also partnered with the City of Escondido to grant $1.5 million to nonprofit organizations that serve the city.
